The designPH plugin, available in 2014, will further optimize creative planning with a Trimble SketchUp-based tool allowing users to model their Passive House projects in 3D. It will simplify the process of entering data into PHPP but also provide preliminary feedback on the performance of a design.

The PHPP With its detailed manual has long provided a reliable basis for the design of energy-efficient buildings. In many countries it is also accepted as proof of compliance with the Passive House criteria for subsidies and low-interest loans. To facilitate this in the USA, we are working on a local Tab in which local code compliance/incentives can be calculated with the PHPP8. As with all PHPP versions, the Excel-based software tool is an open tool in which all calculations/formulas are visible – not a black box like most energy modelling software. Making the performance of the building/design, clear, transparent and understandable for professionals wishing to gain special insight to its workings. Giving architects, designers and energy consultants the world the tool to optimize their designs and components systematically and on the basis of hard figures.
The PHPP 8 also places a greater focus on the increasingly popular combination of Passive House and renewables In addition to the solar-powered hot water generation already covered by previous versions, the PHPP 8 allows for the calculation of energy outputs from photovoltaic systems, heat pumps and geothermal probes.
