Passive House Grows in New York

NY14PHspeakerimage475 High Performance Building Supply (475) was proud to be a sponsor and active participant in the third annual NY14 Passive House Conference & Expo  in downtown Manhattan on June 17th.   The day kicked-off as 475 partner and NY Passive House President, Ken Levenson, welcomed the assembled group of over 375.

The day featured Passive House schools, office buildings, dormitories and multi-family buildings by Passive House leaders from Lois Arena of Steven Winter Associates in New York, to Sabine Leribaux of Architectes Associes from Brussels.

IPCC Scientist Diana Ürge-Vorsatz started the day with a clear-eyed view of the dire climate situation we face and the critical role of building efficiency in addressing it.  Günter Lang of Passivhaus Austria ended the day with an inspiring survey of Passive House projects from around the world.  In addition to many architects, consultants and real estate developers, the audience included representatives of the New York City Mayor, the Dept of Buildings and other city agencies – all having a growing interest in the application of Passive House in New York.

An article titled “Architects and Advocates Predict Passive Revolution” in The Commercial Observer newspaper online highlighted the focus of the conference and the potential of Passive House to transform the way New York makes buildings.
