Introduction to ADHERO, the Fully-Adhered Membrane

solitexadhero_website_image-300x200Welcome to the family

Right on the tail of the release of VISCON, a liquid-applied membrane, Pro Clima is releasing ADHERO: a fully-adhered, high-performance WRB developed for commercial applications. Unlike similar membranes, it manages to be waterproof and vapor-open without relying on pores. Like other SOLITEX membranes in the Pro Clima family, it’s a monolithic TEEE vapor-open material.

What makes ADHERO unique

ADHERO relies on active vapor diffusion.  Rated over 8 perms, it hits the sweet spot for outward drying and preventing inward vapor drive. The ADHERO nonporous membrane is incredibly waterproof, with a tested water column exceeding 32 ft (10m) in height.

Many fully-adhered membranes actually have strips of adhesive, not a continuous layer of adhesive and they use butyl adhesives – leading to poor performance at low temperatures. The surface tension of these ‘porous’ membranes is also kept low, which reduces the quality of the adhesion at the overlap.

ADHERO goes the distance with a full surface Pro Clima acrylic adhesive layer: ADHERO adheres extremely well to most common building materials without the need for a primer. It can be installed at cold temperatures. It can be applied horizontally or vertically, and with the 8” top-release strip, it can be hung quickly, while the bottom part can be pressurized without creases, easily, in the next step.

Ready for duty

In some ways, ADHERO is like a gigantic piece of TESCON VANA tape. Just like VANA requires you to ensure proper pressurization with the PRESSFIX tool, ADHERO uses a similar, but bigger applicator tool – which we’ve dubbed the PRESSFIX XL. Application temperature goes down to 15F, and it can be exposed to the elements on the job site for up to 90 days.

So, for the next job that needs a self-adhered WRB – think ADHERO. Not only is it first in its class, it is affordable and part of a complete Pro Clima family of assembly air and moisture control, that provides a real full system warranty – giving the builder and owner peace of mind.

Can this be part of a critical air barrier?

Yes indeed, Alex. ADHERO is designed to be the primary (aka critical) air barrier for a given assembly.

Excellent. This is very timely for me, will fit into a project in the planning stage. Does this also work in a vented roof situation? Under metal? Thanks.

Absolutely, as long as you’re talking about a pitched roof. If it’s a very low pitch / flat roof situation, then you would be looking at Weldano.
