BUILDEX Vancouver 2017

February 15, 2017 - February 16, 2017

BUILDEX Vancouver is Western Canada’s largest tradeshow and conference for the Construction, Renovation, Architecture, Interior Design and Property Management industries. With over 600 exhibits, and more than 80 educational seminars BUILDEX attracts over 14,000 attendees annually.
This year, 475’s Lucas Johnson is speaking on Safe & Natural Building Enclosures. His presentation will cover the basic building science of high performance enclosures. A wide range of material options such as wood fiberboard, sheathings, membranes, mineral wool, straw bale, cellulose and other insulations will be considered.
Airtightness goals will be analyzed, looking at ground, wall, and roof conditions as well as the design, construction, and testing of the assemblies. The presentation will demonstrate that one can achieve higher performance, greater sustainability, resilience, and building health without foam. We also show how to do it with practical examples, details, and assemblies that make sense.

Western Regional Manager – Lucas Johnson has been on the leading edge of high performance buildings since starting his career at 15 years old. He has worked as a builder, utility program manager, consultant, and venture capitalist to deliver Zero Net Energy, Passive House, Living Future, and even two of his own standards: SUN Buildings and Positive Energy Buildings. Lucas also holds a degree in Physicochemical Biology as well as a Master of Environmental Science and EcoEntrepreneurship. The uniting theme of his career is a passion for turning BS into building science. His position at 475 is his dream job since he gets to share his experience free of charge by collaborating with awesome architects, engineers, and builders to make their projects cost-effective, healthy, deep green, and enjoyable.
