Project Spotlight: The Farmhouse Of The Future

Project Spotlight: The Farmhouse Of The Future

Project Name: The Homestead Modern
Location: Germantown, NY USA
Project Type: Rural, Single Family
Homeowner/Designer/Builder: Everett Kramer
Carpenters: Adam Steeneck, Stewart Rappin, and Ryan Voell
Engineering / Passive House Consulting: Baukraft Engineering

Inspired by the struggle to update his old Hudson Valley farmhouse built in 1850, Everett Kramer dreamed up his ideal project which he's now affectionally referring to as 'The Farmhouse of the Future.' His path to understanding how to design and build his new home started with 475 Project Spotlight videos like the one he's now appearing in below. Among Everett's cheif goals for this project: durability, comfort, ease of maintenance, and low carbon materials. It's no wonder he found Passive House as a guiding philosphy, and Yestermorrow Design/Build School as a role model.

A big 'thank you' to Everett for recording such fantastic documentation throughout the process. By taking video at every step of the process, you really get a sense for the entire project and how it came together. If you're a homeowner and find yourself inspired by Everett's work, we highly recommend you follow in his footsteps: download the Smart Enclosure Details that work for you, watch our product intro series, take a Yestermorrow design class, and build like the future depends on it!
