How To Prep A Window Opening With ADHERO

475’s Shaun St-Amour was called to the job site of a Geography Contracting project in Vancouver, BC to answer some questions about how to best prepare window openings when using ADHERO fully adhered membrane as your WRB. Even if you didn't spend a fortune on your windows, a proper window install will bump up your building's comfort and efficiency, while ensuring that your walls stay dry.

On this job they used ADHERO self-adhered WRB serving as airtightness and weather protection on the exterior. The sill is protected by the stretchy, waterproof EXTOSEAL ENCORS, and the final touches are secured with TESCON VANA tape. Interior airtightness and vapor control is provided by INTELLO X, which is also taped with TESCON VANA. Here’s a rundown of what you need to know for each product:

Wall + Roof Exterior/commercial grade, heavy-duty, smart vapor retarder that doubles as temporary WRB - use inboard of primary insulation layer. stapled, taped with TESCON VANA Variable: 0.13 to 13 perms 2 months
